I pull Nigel out of my back pocket--I'd managed to grab him when I'd scooped Kiki up."Well, here's Nigel," I tell her as I put him in her arms, "and I'll stay with you until you fall asleep."

I start to sop up some of the milk but when Kiki asks if I'm mad I stop and look her in the eyes. "No baby. Accidents happen. Just be more careful next time, okay?"

I wince when I see the accident about to happen but know I can't save the cup. When I see Kiki's face I frown as I get paper towels and hand some to her. "It's okay, Sweetheart. Accidents happen," I assure her, kissing her cheek. "Can you please help Nanty clean it up?"
