I pull the covers of the bed back, inviting Willa to get in bed, When she does I tuck the covers around her and kiss her forehead. "Goodnight, Wild Thing. I love you."

"It's alright, Willa," I tell my daughter with a smile. Giving her a kiss I tell her, "alright, it's time you get some sleep." Standing up I hold out my hand for my daughter to help her up.

Huging Willa back I answer, "you're welcome. I guess I don't have to spank your butt to help you remember..." I tease lightly.

*Looks slightly startled when Momma hands me back my phone, not having expected that at all!  Pulls a face as Momma mentions bedtime!*

"Thank you Momma!  I'll try and remember from now on"

*Hugging Momma, i reach over and slide the phone into my desk drawer, out of temptations way till the morning, not needing Momma to come in in the middle of the night and find me playing with it!*

With that, I take the phone from my pocket and hand it to her. "Here you go," I tell my daughter, "just mind that you use it like you're meant to from here on out." I pause and, with a sly smile, add, "It's nearly your bedtime anyway." I give her a teasing wink.

"That doesn't sound stupid at all," I answer quietly as I snuggle my daughter and kiss the top of her head. "I get it. And sometimes I miss him, too."

*Nods my head softly and nibbles on my lip*

"III know this prolly sounds silly momma, i mean i was only little and i can't hardly remember him, but at the old house......It's like dad was still around sorta, you know? "

*Shakes my head*

"It Sounds stupid when i say it out loud"

As I listen to my daughter I gently stroke her hair. When she's finished I tell her, "I miss it too, honey. But different isn't always a bad thing," I point out. "And missing what was doesn't mean not liking what is, either. You don't have to feel bad for missing how things were. A lot has changed and needing time to adjust to that change isn't a bad thing."

*Nod my head at Momma*

*I miss my friends Momma, and i miss our house, and the cherry tree in the backyard u planted when i was born an i guess i miss it just bein us, ya know?  I mean i know the house wouldn't a been big enough for everyone an i like it here its just - different"

"She would have and probably known what the consequences would be if you didn't listen, too," I point out with a slight laugh.

*Nods my head*

"Yes Momma."

*Smiles slightly as think on who i was texting, Janey having been my best friend and partner in crime  since we started school*

"Janey says Hi by the way!  And yeah, janey would have understood i just didn't think Momma"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

"Mhm," I answer Willa's ideas. "And if you were texting someone from home at the time, you could have let them know that you were needed and you'd talk to them in a few minutes."
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

*Nods at Momma when she says she can't promise that i'll never lose my phone if i break the rules*

"I know Momma.  I should have left my phone in my room, or at least sat it outta reach while we was talkin so that i wasn't tempted to play with it, or even just switched it off while we talked."
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed
Post by: Corrie McIntyre on September 15, 2017, 09:16:53 pm
"Mmm," I answer quietly when Willa explains where her mind was when I took her phone. "Well, I can understand that, Sweetheart." I bite back the urge to re-explain my reasons for taking the phone. I know she understands them completely and isn't trying to argue.

"Unfortunately, honey, I can't promise I'll never take your phone from you. It's a natural consequence for some times, like what happened this afternoon. And if you don't want it to happen then you've got to be extra mindful of the rules surrounding the phone. Can you think of a way the situation this afternoon might have been avoided?"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

"I'm sorry Momma."

*Thinks a little and tries to explain why i was upset you took my phone*

"Sighssss i know i  was wrong Momma, and your right i do know better.  I was upset when you took my phone because like, it's the only way i got to keep in touch with everyone from back home since we moved here and it felt like you were cutting me off from the completely, but i get it was my fault Momma, really"

"I think that sometimes the teenaged attitude and want for independence overshadows that, yes," I answer with a smile.
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

*Sighs softly and closes my eyes as momma runs her fingers through my hair, loving it when she plays with it.  Thinks about what she said.*

"I guess i never thought about it that way Momma, aabout it bein a kind of dishonesty."

*Thinks on what she said about being sorry when i done something*

"I'm always sorry f i upset you Momma, i guess i just don't always show it so well huh?"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed
Post by: Corrie McIntyre on September 15, 2017, 07:51:18 pm
"It's called being a teenager," I answer softly as I start to run my fingers through my daughter's hair. "And I think it's a good thing you know how you're acting isn't okay. But Willa, when I call you on it you've got to acknowledge that, otherwise the consequences might be a lot worse. Especially if I know you know better. Remorse goes a long way. It might not always get you completely out of stuff, but you'll be a lot better off with being honest than not. And yes, not acknowledging that you do know better than to do something is a level of dishonesty."

*leans into momma when she puts her arm round me, layin my head on her shoulder.  Thinks about what she said, and tries to explain whats goin on in my head.*

"i know Momma, i'm sorry.  It's like, sometimes theres someone else takes over my body an i'm stuck inside.  It's like i can see and hear whats goin on on the outside but i can't do nothing about it!"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

Taking a breath I go over to my daughter and sit beside her, putting an arm around her, gently pulling her to me. "Willa, I don't expect you to like everything I have to say. But I do expect you to respect that I'm saying it in the same way that I respect what you say. You're sixteen and old enough that we should be able to have conversations about stuff like this. But that can't happen if you just shut down on me when I try to talk to you."
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

*lets out a sigh, slumping slightly in the window seat.  Tucking my hair behind my ears i glance over at you.*

"I'm sorry momma, you're right.  I do understand, i just don't like it much!"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

Softening slightly I answer, "Willa, I don't want you to say anything you don't mean, for starters," I clarify. But it would be nice if you would try to see things from my perspective and if you understand it, say so. Just like I did when you told me how you saw things."

*Looks up wide eyed at momma when she says she HAD been going to give me my phone back tonight,  Waving my hands in frustration*

"i Don't know what you want me to say!"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

When a moment passes and there is no response from my daughter I get up from her bed. She knows I dislike that as well. "Alright," I tell her, "I was going to let you have your phone back tonight, but if you want to give me the silent treatment rather than have a mature discussion about things, I'll keep it at least overnight." Willa hadn't been overly rude to me and the phone thing hadn't been intentional, so I don't think a spanking is in order for her behavior.

*Just sorta shrugs my shoulders  at momma, still kinda mad about her taking the phone away.  Still fingercombing my hair - mostly because it needs done, but also because it gives me a reason to hide my face from momma*
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

I sigh a little bit, but not because I'm upset with Willa about her response. I don't enjoy making her upset, but I am sticking by my earlier actions. "Willa, you're old enough to know better than to have your phone out while I'm trying to have a serious discussion with you about something," I point out. "And your knowing that expectation is the reason you weren't warned first. I realize that playing on your phone wasn't intended to be rude but your actions speak louder than your words on that one because you know I view not giving me your full attention that way."
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

*Shakes my head*

"You didn't have to take it away Momma!  It's not like i was playing with it deliberately to be rude or nothing!  You didn't even give me a chance to put it away or anything you just took it straiaght away!!"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed
Post by: Corrie McIntyre on September 15, 2017, 04:11:49 pm
"Willa, I took it away as a consequence to your actions. When you misuse something--which in this case means using it at an inappropriate time--there need to be consequences. And I did it in front of everyone because everyone happen to be in the room, not because I wanted to embarrass you. I'd never do that if I can help it. Unfortunately, sometimes embarrassment is a byproduct of correcting behavior."

*Frowns a little when you ask if i get why you took my phone*

"No!  I get i shouldn't have been using it while you were talking Momma, but i don't get why you had to take it awy OR why you had to do it in front of everybody!"
Title: Re: Relaxing before bed

"Talk about what exactly?"

*Taking the towel from my hair i start to to comb it through with my fingers before it dries completely*

"Hi MOmma"

I notice Willa's absence from the cookie-eating and so I give her a few minutes to herself, knowing all the changes have been a lot to take in and wanting to give her time to herself.

Once time has passed, I head up to my daughter's bedroom and softly knock on the door, peeking in. I have her phone in my hand. "Willa?" I ask, quietly. "May I come in?"
Title: Relaxing before bed
Post by: Willa Rose on September 15, 2017, 03:05:10 pm
*After leaving Momma and the girls in the living room, i head on upstairs, thinking to get a head start on a shower whilst the girls are distracted by cookies and milk!  Heading to my room, i grab my favourite comfy jammies and head on into the bathroom to use the shower.  Turning the water on nice and hot , i step under the spray, Just enjoying the feel of the hot spray and the fact that i have some time to myself before the others will be fighting over the bathroom.  Of all the things having the girls living with us, having to share the bathroom was probably one of the hardest!

After taking the time to thoroughly wash and condition my long hair, i change into my jammies and wrapping a towel round my wet hair, i head back into the bedroom.  Picking up the latest book ive been reading i curl up in the window seat and lose myself in its pages*
