I raise a single eyebrow at my daughter, continuing to hold out my hand for her phone.

"Willa Rose McIntyre, I will not tell you again. Obey, before you and I excuse ourselves to your bedroom for a discussion and I keep the phone for two days rather than just overnight."

While Willa is texting her friend, I spot Kiki crawling back behind the couch and can't help but chuckle as I step over and catch her around her waist, scooping her up and kissing her cheek. "It's okay, baby," I assure her, gently nuzzling her cheek. I sit her back down on the couch by Toni.

I hadn't even seen Toni with the Kindle before, but I do notice her sliding it back into its case and nod to her. "Thank you, Toni."

Iona's clearly uncomfortable, so as I take Willa's phone from her and place it on the mantle, I pass Iona and rest a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Okay, so another point I think is important about being responsible is that includes doing chores and schoolwork on time and keeping up with your stuff. Does that make sense?"
